Getting it right for your puppy. Because your Puppy isn’t like everyone else’s.

One to One Puppy Training York - Puppy Behaviourist. Specialist Puppy Support Yorkshire.

The more we learn about puppy training and development, the more we know that a singular, ‘one size fits all’ approach tends to hinder more people than it helps. And as specialists in puppy behaviour, we know how important it is to get the right information for your puppy as early as possible - so that you can help them succeed in their own way.

Maybe your puppy seems a lot more sensitive than the others in your puppy training class. They spook easily, they’re seem anxious, or overly attached. They struggle in outdoor spaces or get overwhelmed by other dogs or people.

Or your sleep routine just feels like it’s been a nightmare from day 1, when everyone else has their pup sleeping through the night, but you can’t even leave the room without them howling and crying.

Maybe you’re struggling with your puppies excitement levels - they seem to get far more worked up than others in your puppy training class, or they seem a little too intense for it to be healthy. You’ve been told it’s ‘just play’ - but your puppy seems to be steamrolling every dog it sees and its making people uncomfortable. They’re jumping and grabbing and barking for food, or their puppy biting is leaving you with scars all over your hands.

The reason? Because there is no ‘normal’ with puppies - and the approach that your puppy needs could be the exact opposite of what your neighbour told you, or what you were advised in puppy class, or what everyone else is doing on the online training programme.

As behaviour specialists, we’re used to providing dedicated support and care to the puppies that don’t fit the mould, or need a little extra help getting started. Whether that’s building confidence and independence, working through overstimulation, early onset aggressive behaviours or a custom socialisation strategy. It’s what we do - the same expertise we provide for adult dogs, for the puppies who need it most.

110% recommend James. We’re new puppy owners and James spent a good two hours with us today focusing on walking outside, lead training and aggression/biting. Within 5 minutes of James entering the room, our puppy was like a different dog. Completely obedient and the biting stopped really quickly. James was lovely and we had a fantastic time and laugh with him. He was extremely calm and gentle towards our dog which was a concern as we knew a few dog trainers who take the harsher approach. If you have a puppy or have any dog issues, don’t even think twice about booking James. This evening was the best evening we had, extremely controlled and relaxed after 3 weeks of teething and biting.

James & Atti

“Really brilliant session with James helping us with our 5 month old Labrador puppy, Barney. His calm manner and clear explanations mean it’s easy to put things into practice. Lead walking is now a pleasure for all of us. James has been with us from the start when we had some early issues following getting a puppy during lockdown. His advice saved our sanity!”

“As a retired vet, I felt I should know how to deal with my puppy who was constantly snapping, biting and chewing me but I couldn't resolve it. James was extremely helpful and gave me some valuable information and advice. I can recommend him to anyone who wants a well behaved dog.”
